I was a senior at Vernon High School and on that day some friends and I sat around the kitchen table playing cards as the tornado came within a half mile of our house. We later drove around Vernon looking at the devastation while listening to the Wichita Falls radio station for news on our tornado when the giant tornado hit there about 2 hours later.

Here is a sight with many photos of the WF tornado and graphics of just how many twisters hit our region on that day:

I was in Ft. Sill near Lawton with my father when this event happened. A tornado hit Lawton that night, and I can recall the noise of it. Was only 8 years old at the time, but recall it very clearly. Being a second generation tornado buff, it was exciting to be there. It was too bad so many were hurt and killed, but it could have also been much worse.

I am currently looking for DVD copies of the Terrible Tuesday film produced by the government, along with others. We saw this film in Cub Scouts every year in the spring. The lessons learned and those we lost on that day helped many to be safer in the years since, a good tribute.
