By default, mysql doesn't have a password set for root - you need to set one with:
mysqladmin -u root password "newpwd"

It's the MySQL manual you need to read this time!! http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/4.1/en/default-privileges.html

Thanks to all my helpers.
My Wview is now working. I have to do quite a bit of polishing up before publishing.

Just one remark concerning the User Manual for MySQL
It should be GRANT ALL ON wviewDB.* TO "wvwuser"@"localhost"IDENTIFIED BY "wvwpasswd";
Not GRANT ALL ON wviewDB.* TO wvwuser@localhost IDENTIFIED BY "wvwpasswd"; without quotes.
This will probably make you smile because you are experts, but for a newby like me its time consuming to figure out these details!

The User Manual says also that to use metric units the station should be US Units and then convert to metric. At the moment I have console and Wview both metric and it looks OK. Is there a draw back somewhere?

An other thing.
When I do /var/wview/img/index.html on the command line as root, permission is denied
I chmod +x the file. Same thing.
When I put /var/wview/img/index.html in my browser URL , it opens up fine.
Why root cannot open it at the command line?

What is the difference between the conf files in ...../wview-3.1.1/examples/conf/ and the ones in /etc/wview/

I am asking because trying to change language in /etc/wview/images-metric.conf makes no difference on /var/wview/img/index.html

A+

Jean-Paul,

Je continue en anglais car si chacun parle sa langue on ne s'en sort pas Smile

You should rather check directly your image files and/or do
a shift+F5 in your browser.
I've made a few changes in the past in the images-metric.conf
without any problem, they were correctly repercuted.
As soon as I want to modify something in the conf files, I stop
wview, make the mods and start it again. It has always worked.

I'm in the process to translate the images-metric. conf file, I did it
in the past, but with the metric conversion I decided to start over.

Modifying the html pages is quite simple thansk to an html editor.
On top of that, with Chrisale's state-of-the-art templates, you can create
very attractive pages !

Brice,
Shift + F5 or stop/start Wview or stopping Wview and writing in images-metric.conf and restarting Wview makes no change in browser output. It remains exactly the same.
Would you think that changing Temperature to Température would be a problem i.e. accents?
It looks to me that I have to make language changes somewhere else, but where??
I have tried to change the title in index.htx. Same thing, No change.
It might be a cache problem, but then stopping/restarting the machine should solve that. It does'nt.

No wonder why it was not working. It is images-metric-mm.conf that one has to change when dealing with millimetric rain fall, not images-metric.conf .....
Little by little I am learning!
