Is there a way either in the Davis console, or somewhere in the data, to see what direction the wind was from for the HI time?

I would assume it must all be in the archive at the specified time...

It would be really great if this was included in the hi-wind time tag!

edit: actually along the same lines.. i just realised that it would be cool to include that direction in the regular wind gauge, like you've done with the temp and windchill.

just thinking out loud.

You really shouldn't do ANYTHING until after January 1 though. Smile
Merry Christmas

thanks

Chris

Unfortunately, no there isn't an easy way to add the high wind speed direction. The wind direction and speed data is extracted from the HILOW and LOOP packets out of the VP console. Neither packet indicates the direction of the high wind measurement.

The archive records do include a High Wind direction value, but that is just for the archive interval being reported - it would have to be added to the computed data logic which generates the majority of the Almanac data. I will have a look to see how much it would take to add it there.

I think it would be a cool addition as well and would have included from the git go it if it had been available in the VP protocol directly...

Merry Christmas to you too!

I've added it, although it is not all that sexy...

Problem is that the archive records specify wind direction in a range of 0-15 (22.5 angular degree resolution). So the high wind direction is one of 0, 22.5, 45, 67.5, 90, ...

You can see a preview at my site.

bummer, seems odd that the VP console wouldn't have it, seems fairly intuitive.

I couldn't find your preview whereabouts was it?

Home page - little red tick sitting on "S".

If by "doesn't have it" you mean in the current data packets (HILOW and LOOP), have a look at the protocol document. It is a bit odd, but not the first value I would have thought they would have included.

This sounds like a job for mySQL... we could pull the needed value from the database and at least have it available on the webpage... but that would require a server-side scripting language. Ya think maybe you could add the ability for the htmlgenerator to generate php files to do this?

Short answer, no.

Yes it could be done but I see that as outside of the wview "charter". It is open source and a person could incorporate it if they wished.

Bottom line is that not everyone uses SQL archiving and wview features like that should work the same for everyone.

We'll live with the poor resolution... Wink It is better than not having it.

And Davis is NOT going to change their protocol in any significant way IMHO...

I did double the resolution of the wind direction text HTML tag...
