|
Just joined the list a couple of days ago and am having problems getting wview running. MacOSX 10.3.9 Mac G4 Cube wview 3.2.1
Followed the Quick Start Guide for Mac to the letter. Everything seemed to install fine - no warnings, etc. I can get up to step 10, still without error messages, restart the Mac and then try to start wview (step 11 and get the following message in the Terminal window:
Last login: Sat Jul 22 14:02:08 on console
Welcome to Darwin!
[David-Wagners-Computer:~] davidwag% sudo /sbin/SystemStarter start "wview"
Password:
Welcome to Macintosh.
Starting SecurityServer
Initializing network
Checking disks
Starting wview daemons
radlib router pid file /var/wview/radmrouted.pid exists - killing existing process
htmlgend[358]: <2543762370> : system init failed!
Startup complete.
Hangup
[David-Wagners-Computer:~] davidwag%
I have tried reinstalling everything from scratch and still get the same results.
I have looked throuth the archives and can't seem to find anything related to this. Any help in resolving this would be GREATLY appreciated.
(If you would be kind enough, a step-by-step workthrough would be great as I am not very comfortable in the Terminal window yet)
Thanks in advance

Hi Dave
I have limited experience of Macs so bear with me...
What type of interface are you using? Does vpconfig device show return anything sensible?
Cheers

Hi Jon, tnx for the quick reply. Here is what comes up when I do the vpconfig:
Usage: vpconfig <station_device> <command> [cmnd_args]
station_device serial device the VP console is connected to:
FreeBSD: /dev/cuaa0 - /dev/cuaa4
Linux: /dev/ttyS0 - /dev/ttyS4
Linux USB: /dev/ttyUSB0
Ethernet: host:port
command command to execute, one of:
show
- retrieve and display VP console config
cleararchive
- clear the archive memory without changing the interval
setinterval <interval in minutes>
- set the archive interval (this clears the archive memory)
setelevation <elevation in feet>
- set the station elevation (feet) - use this to adjust the barometer
setgain <0 for off, 1 for on>
- sets the gain of the radio receiver
setlatlong <latitude (negative for S)> <longitude (negative for W)>
- set the station latitude and longitude in tenths of a degree
setrainseasonstart <month (1-12)>
- set the month that the yearly rain total begins
setyeartodaterain <0.00 - 200.00>
- set the yearly rain total to date
setyeartodateET <0.00 - 200.00>
- set the yearly Evapotranspiration total to date
This is all through the Terminal utility on the Mac which accesses the Unix system through the X11 X Windows System.

Sorry, Jon, one of my lines was cut off the last post:
Whenever I run the vpconfig /dev/ttyUSB0 show, or any of the other device paths, I get
stationInit failed
Sorry

You need to identify which port you're using.
From the Mac quick start guide (step 9) and a bit of googling, it looks like the port will be called something like /dev/tty.SOMETHING. Do and see if you it's anything obvious. If not, post the results of 'ls /dev*' back here and maybe someone can say which one it is. |

Jon, tnx for all your help. Guess my eyes weren't good enough to see that I had completely missed assigning the device name (/dev/tty.SLAB_USBtoUART) when configuring in step 9 - not once or twice, but several times. I thought it would pick that as the default, but it didn't seem to be the case.
All seems to be headed in the right direction now, and I can get page generation. Thanks again for your help and patience with this rank beginner.
